The Steele Dossier Was Right, Cohen Is a Traitor
Michael Cohen, consiglieri of the Trump crime organization, really did visit Prague in late summer of 2016 during the Presidential election, according to evidence now in the hands of the Mueller investigation. Cohen had denied this allegation of the Steele dossier, but the Justice Department's special counsel now has evidence that Cohen lied, says a report tonight from McClatchy.
The purpose of Cohen's visit to Prague was reportedly to meet with agents of Russian intelligence to discuss the remuneration of east Europeans who cooperated in the hacking of emails from the Democratic National Committee, and a strategy to hide those hackers from possible detection after the fact.
Cohen's denial, and the absence of publicly-visible evidence were cited by Trump supporters as a reason to disbelieve the Steele dossier. Of course, much independent evidence has come forth since then to substantiate large parts of the dossier, and Mueller has evidence that this part of the dossier is true too. Cohen is President Trump's personal lawyer.
Cohen appears to be heading into even greater legal trouble after the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York seized a large volume of evidence from Cohen's home, bank, office, and other locations. To do this, the Justice Department must have had convincing evidence that Cohen has engaged in criminal acts, and that there was a danger he would destroy evidence of those acts.
Because the seized evidence goes back for many years, there is a significant chance that it touches on crimes committed by the Trump business organization. Communications with Trump may reveal other criminal acts, including collusion with the Russians to influence the 2016 election.
The President is said to be very worried that Mueller is closing in on him.
Republicans in Congress have been extremely narrow-minded and unpatriotic in their persistent threats against the special counsel and their support of Trump in his destruction of American democratic institutions. Perhaps now they can see the writing on the wall and reverse their traitorous course of action.
